We are a live action group that has been gaming together since 1993. We use the "Minds-Eye
Theater" system published by White Wolf Publishing.
The rules for the game can be found in Laws of the Night
. The game is set in
Denver, and is run for friends and acquaintances of the Storyteller. There are openings for new
players and narrators. The game typically runs about 45 - 70 people and you are welcome to join
us.
This particular game is set in White Wolf's World of Darkness. It is primarily a Vampire Camarilla game; all traditional clans, as well as the Ravnos, Giovanni, and Gargoyles, are or have been represented by PCs. Notable (NPC)s include elder vampires, garou (and their friends and foes), Black Spiral Dancers, mages (likewise with their friends and foes), a mummy, kinfolk, other were-creatures (such as the Bastet, which are were-cats), HIT Marks, Men in Black, government agents, beings from outer space, hunters (of all types and variety -- not necessarily vampire hunters), local businessmen, changelings (seelie and unseelie both), wraiths and vengeful spirits, and psychotic serial killers (to name a few). The game attempts to encompass the entire World of Darkness.
So what is Live Action Role-playing? Here's my own abbreviated attempt to explain it: it is similar to being an actor in a play. You know who your character was before they became a vampire, why they were chosen to be embraced, who they are, what they can do (within the rules of a the system, which includes common-sense things like No Touching the other characters, as well as rules for how to engage in combat or use supernatural abilities), and how they fit into the world. Then you costume for your character as appropriate, show up at the pre-appointed location, and interact with the other characters throughout the evening (reacting in person to other players, or antagonists thoughtfully provided by your Storyteller). If you're lucky, you actually accomplish something your character would think is important, and move forward through their character development in an interesting and creative fashion. If you're unlucky, you may succumb to another character's plans. Either way, most players enjoy being caught up in the stories woven around them and right before their eyes, in the fantastically rich world we are fortunate to be playing within. It's also worth noting that this is not a "hack and slash" type of game. BloodShadows still has several characters who have been played since the very beginning of the chronicle, in 1993.
